New Year’s Day marks the beginning of the celebration of the New Year,

On September 27, 1949, the First Plenary Session of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference adopted a resolution stating: “The People’s Republic of China shall adopt the Common Era calendar for its official dating system,” which is what we refer to as the Gregorian calendar.
To distinguish the Lunar New Year from the Gregorian New Year, and given that “Beginning of Spring,” one of the Twenty-Four Solar Terms in the lunar calendar, falls around the time of the Lunar New Year, the first day of the first lunar month was subsequently renamed “Spring Festival.”
January 1 on the Gregorian calendar was designated as “New Year’s Day,” thereby making it a joyous national holiday for all Chinese people.
